I don't know whether I unknowingly saved a life or something, but I've been having a fabulous reading streak lately (especially with shifter books).
Taking such an overused concept such as shapeshifters on board and actually being able to
add something substantial to it is a pretty amazing feat, and this
wonderful duo has so wonderfully achieved it. The execution isn't perfect, the ideas aren't 100% drawn out, but they're there, and they are
fabulous.
This is a bit of a guilty pleasure read. It's hot, sexy, short and I'm pretty sure my eyes glazed over at some of the sex scenes. But despite all that, it's a pretty substantial read. I was really interested in this somewhat alternate universe, the explanations about 'breaking', the wolf-shifter society and their traditions and customs and such.
Shifters are 'out' in this world, but stuff isn't so happy-chappy. As one reviewer said, there are some pretty dark aspects to this world regarding shifters, but the novel itself is nowhere near dark. (Sorry Tinka, and all my GR friends who can't read anything that
isn't dark *eyeroll*).
The characters were very likeable, and somewhat well drawn out, and the storyline, though it is technically mystery, isn't (and probably wasn't meant to be) some complex, nail biting case.
I will
definitely be going onto the next book.
