Quirky Musings

(but mostly stupid ones)

Nowhere Ranch - Heidi Cullinan I had no idea what to rate this really, but in a good way I guess. After reading this, I don't know. Usually, when I read a book, I'm able to able to catalogue in the back of my mind the things I like, the things I don't, things that will deduct stars and such. This time, I was just really enthralled and drawn into the book at a certain point that I just forgot anything and everything.

I really do agree with Julesmarie in regards to this book. It is intense. But for me, it was a kind of quiet intensity. The kind that you don't really notice at first, and you're not really hooked from the get go. But then, you reach that point where you just suddenly read the next 60% in one go, and you're trying to read the book faster than you can actually read, because you're just that drawn in, I suppose.

I really really adored the how the way the characters were so well drawn out, and how 3D they were. Ms Cullinan really pulled me into liking the ones I should like, and absolutely hating the ones I should hate.

Speaking of characters, loved Roe and Travis, apart and together. They fit well together so well, and I really believed they were going to stay together past this span of this book (which is always awesome when you're a huge believer in the big HEA).

One of the things that was a bit ehh is the sex. I'm not saying that it's difficult to read and endure (you see, using the word endure brings all these horrible connotations to the table). It was quite hot, just not, um.. panty ripping. The animal name calling (dog, horse), and the um, the horsetailed dildo, wasn't exactly to my taste. But it was okay, I didn't exactly mind it, and once I could get used to it, I found it quite hot. Quite.

The way it is written, in a way that feels very personalised by the MC (Roe) and very much him can be difficult to get into if it's not your type. But I found that I very much liked this writing style after I got used to it. The pacing is wonderfully slow, but not tedious, more andante, which is also what I felt added to the quiet intensity.

Overall? I adored it, I recommend it, and I think Gwenith should keep trying!
